Lightning protection of renewables

The lightning protection of renewable energy sources has recently been receiving growing attention in Hungary as well, touching on a problem area that is interesting from several angles: we want to generate energy economically, ideally in a more environmentally friendly way, while also minimizing lost generating capacity.

In connection with this, the department's research group is actively involved in both domestic and international standards bodies, as well as in international scientific committees. We publish the results of our scientific research on both international and domestic platforms:

Surge protection solutions

As the number of digital devices keeps growing, the resulting damage would grow proportionally if our buildings did not have modern surge protection devices. The dynamically changing industrial and residential environment demands, at an ever-faster pace, the creation of new, more compact protective devices and methodologies.

In connection with this, the department's research group is actively involved in both domestic and international standards bodies, as well as in international scientific committees. We publish the results of our scientific research on both international and domestic platforms.

Preventive lightning protection

Preventive lightning protection does not build on classical protection to minimize damage. The goal is not, as with the Franklin rod, to concentrate lightning strikes in a given direction; rather, for large, temporary events, the aim is to reduce loss of life to zero by beginning the evacuation of the area in good time, in a previously planned manner, based on meteorological observations.
